The China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) released a White Paper on China’s Digital Economy Development, on April 25. In 2020, Hunan’s digital economy hit 1.15 trillion CNY, ranking 12th nationally. The year-on-year growth rate reached 13.9%, ranking 4th in China.

The year of 2020 marked the start of Hunan’s digital economic development plan. With the dual drives of digital industrialization and industrial digitalization, Hunan has taken sustained efforts in promoting development of 5G, mobile internet, internet of industry, software, information technology innovation, big data, and AI. Digital economy becomes a new engine of Hunan’s high-quality development. Statistics shows that, Hunan’s digital economy growth rate is 10.1 percentage points higher than that of the GDP in the same period, and the gross volume taking up 27.5% of GDP, 2.1 percentage points higher than 2019.

Digital industrialization speeds up. In 2020, Hunan-based mobile internet businesses made an avenue of 161.8 billion CNY, up 22% over last year. The software industry ranked second among provinces in central China. The digital-driven intelligent economy blooms. The big data and AI industries surpassed 80 billion CNY. More than 4,000 enterprises integrate AI with their major business. Electronic information manufacturing industry accelerates building national-level industrial clusters. Hunan is listed among the six demonstration provinces in information technology innovation, making a new calling card of Hunan.

Industrial digitalization fosters new growth drives. Hunan takes the national lead in innovative development in internet of industry. In 2020, the number of Hunan-based internet of industry pilot and demonstration projects ranked third nationwide. There are 47 large data centers completed, or under construction, and 150,000 racks around the province. Hunan government was listed among the top ten in China in terms of supports to 5G construction. Sixty typical 5G application scenarios have been created which has been constantly promoting 5G application innovation. In 2020, Hunan ranked eighth nationally in terms of the number of the certificated enterprises in integrated management of manufacturing informatization and industrialization. The number of Hunan-based enterprises making use of the internet of industry cloud platform ranked third in China.

Hunan is completing its policy system related to digital economy development. A sound environment for collaborative innovation of industries has taken shape. There are one national software industrial base and a national cybersecurity industrial park. Zhuzhou is listed as an information consumption demonstration city of China.
