The National Bureau of Statistics Survey Office in Hunan released the Hunan people’s livelihood data in the first half of 2020, at a press conference held by the Hunan Provincial People’s Government on July 20. Hunan’s per capita disposable income stood at 13,617 yuan in the first half, up 5.2% from the same period last year. The growth rate was 2.8 percentage points higher than the national average, and 3 percentage points higher than the first quarter.

Per capita income from wages and salary increased 5.3% to 7,209 yuan. Net operating income increased 2.5% to 2,376 yuan. Net property income grew 3.7% to 951 yuan. Transfer income reached 3,081 yuan, up 7.4%. Net operating income rose after declines in the first quarter. The growth of wages and salary; net property income; and, transfer income were faster than those of the first quarter. 

Hunan’s four regions made coordinated progress. The per capita disposable income of residents in Changsa-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan area reached 22,392 yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%; the per capita disposable income of residents in the Dongting Lake area and southern Hunan area both exceeded 13,000 yuan, an increase of 5.1% year-on-year; the per capita disposable income of residents in the greater Xiangxi area was less than 10,000 yuan, with the highest growth rate of 5.8%.

The urban-rural gap narrowed due to targeted poverty alleviation measures. The per capita disposable income of urban residents stood at 19,589 yuan, a year-on-year increase of 4%, while that of rural residents was 7,566 yuan, up 5.9%. The per capita disposable income of residents in 51 poorer counties rose 7.4% to 5,663 yuan. The urban-rural income ratio reduced to 2.59:1 from 2.64:1 in the first half of last year.

In the first half of the year, residents’ incomes increased in various sectors, regional incomes rose in a balanced manner, and the income gap between urban and rural residents narrowed. Hunan’s economic growth maintains good momentum, with development quality improved steadily and opportunities found amid crisis.
