Hunan Foreign Trade Up 21.1% in First Five months

Since the beginning of this year, Hunan's foreign trade has been looking for opportunities in the midst of crisis, and it will become more and more stable. The import and export volume in the first five months have grown rapidly. According to statistics from the Changsha Customs, between January and May, the total import and export value of Hunan Province was 172.06 billion CNY, rose by 21.1% over the same period of the previous year.

In the first five months, the provincial export value was 114.27 billion CNY, grew by 15.7%. The import value was 57.79 billion CNY, up 33.6%. The provincial total import and export value was 40.52 billion CNY this May, an increase of 24.1%.

Both general and processing trade increased. Between January and May, the import and export of general trade in Hunan was 127.74 billion CNY, an increase of 17.7% and accounting for 74.2% of the total foreign trade value. The import and export of processing trade was 33.81 billion CNY, grew by 17.4%.

ASEAN is Hunan’s largest trading partner and has grown rapidly, while EU a slight increase in trade. In the first five months, the provincial trade volume with ASEAN (10 countries) was 28.22 billion CNY, an increase of 46.2%; that with the EU (27 countries, excluding the United Kingdom) 19.16 billion CNY, up 3%; and, that with Hong Kong region 19.91 billion CNY, down 4.2%. The provincial trade with the United States was 15.12 billion CNY, grew by 40.4%; and that with South Korea was 10.3 billion CNY, up 28.1%.

The exports are mainly electromechanical and labor-intensive products. Between January and May, Hunan exported 49.77 billion CNY of mechanical and electrical products, an increase of 15.9% and accounting for 43.6% of the provincial total export value. The imports are mainly mechanical and electrical products, and bulk commodities such as iron ore sand, copper ore sand, and soybean have increased to varying degrees. According to statistics, in the first five months, Hunan imported 24.62 billion CNY of mechanical and electrical products, an increase of 36% and accounting for 42.6% of the provincial total import value. The imported high-tech products were 15.49 billion CNY, grew by 82.7% and accounting for 26.8%.
