The "Hunan 100-Billion-Yuan Tea Industrial Chain Key Technology Innovation and Demonstration", a provincial major industrial innovation chain project, was officially launched recently. The project is led by Liu Zhonghua, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a professor of the Hunan Agricultural University, and the implementation period is 3 years. This was learned from the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province on February 22, 2023.

The project is based on major scientific and technological needs of the healthy, coordinated, sustainable, and high-quality development of the tea industrial chain in Hunan Province; conducts research on resources, technologies, equipment, and products in the core links of the "colorful Hunan tea" industrial chain; and, builds, promotes, and applies a technical system for the production of tea gardens, deep processing of tea leaves, high-value utilization of tea resources, and quality control of tea leaves.

Hunan is a tea-producing powerhouse. The CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the People's Government of Hunan Province have attached great importance to the development of the tea industry, and have identified it as one of the Top 10 100-Billion-Yuan advantageous and characteristic agricultural industries that will be greatly advanced.

The project's deployment and implementation will consolidate the production of tea gardens, strengthen tea processing, and extend the utilization of tea resources across Hunan. It is of great significance to promote high-quality development of the tea industry provincewide, consolidate and expand the achievements of poverty alleviation, and continue to boost rural revitalization.
