The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently approved the proposal of the Hunan Provincial People's Government in constructing the Hunan Industrial Internet Innovation and Development Demonstration Zone. It is the sixth demonstration zone in this regard after those in the Yangtze River Delta, Shandong Province, Guangdong Province, Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle, and Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region supported by the ministry.

The Hunan Industrial Internet Innovation and Development Demonstration Zone will be a crucial support for Hunan's implementation of the positioning and tasks of the "Three Hubs and Four New Missions" Strategy, especially construction of the advanced manufacturing hub of national importance.

In recent years, the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and the Hunan Provincial People's Government have been paying high attention to the development of industrial internet. It was made clear that the industrial internet should be listed as a key industrial cluster directly concerned by the provincial leaders; policy support be continuously strengthened; and, relevant documents be issued to promote industrial internet construction in the aspects of network basis, platform system, security guarantee, and integrated application.

So far, Hunan has one national multi-industrial and cross-disciplinary industrial internet platform, and 44 platforms at the provincial level. The China Academy of Industrial Internet (CAII) Hunan Branch, and the National Industrial Internet Big Data Center Hunan Branch are under construction. China's first second-level node project for industrial Internet identification analysis in electronic industry has been carried out. The number of national industrial internet platform pilot and demonstration projects reached 17, ranking 5th in the country. Industrial internet has been applied in several industrial sectors, such as steel, machinery, ceramics, coal, building, and clothing, marking a notable progress of digitalization of manufacturing.

Next, Hunan will accelerate the building of the demonstration zone. Focus will be put on enhancing infrastructure construction, promoting multi-industrial application, improving technological innovation capacity, cultivating and strengthening industrial ecology, and intensifying security guarantee. The major missions of the construction plan should be carried out in a practicable manner, to form the development experience that can be repeated and promoted, establish the advanced manufacturing hub of the national importance, and boost the high-quality development of economy.
