The 2021 Summit on Peaking of Carbon Emissions and Carbon Neutrality in Yangtze River Middle Reaches City Cluster (Double-Carbon Summit), and also the Hunan International Green Development Expo (Green Expo), will be held at the Hunan International Exhibition and Convention Center in Changsha between October 21 and 24. The Information Office of the Hunan Provincial People's Government publicized event information at a press conference on October 13.

The summit is China's first high-level regional exchange platform focusing on peaking of carbon emissions and carbon neutrality, and the expo has been held annually since 2019. The two events are upgraded into a combination this year.

Themed "low-carbon, circular development", the summit and the expo will focus on low carbon, environmental protection, energy saving, new energy, and circular economy. An exchange and cooperation platform will be established for Chinese and international businesses in green and energy-saving industries, integrating exhibition, trade negotiation, project cooperation, and achievement release. There will be 10 themed and related activities.

A Yangtze River Economic Belt Innovation and Green Development Think Tank will be founded during the event, initiated by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group, Sinochem Environment Holdings Co., Ltd., and Changsha Municipal People's Government. Surveys on green sci-tech innovations along the Yangtze River Economic Belt will be publicized. Beyond that, a provincial catalogue of green industry investment proposals, including more than 100 key projects, will be released. Match-making meetings and field visits will be organized. It is estimated that 50 projects will be contracted, worth more than 10 billion CNY.

Online and offline exhibitions will be combined for the expo. The offline exhibition area covers 40,000 square meters, and consists of four main zones – low carbon and new energy; environment-friendly industries; circular economy; and, green and energy-saving development. A "cloud exhibition" will be held online, integrating online exhibitions, conferences, match-making, and transactions. Online activities will be launched ahead of the offline ones, between October 18 and 25.

The summit and the expo are co-hosted by the CCPIT Hunan Sub-Council, Changsha Municipal People's Government, China Association of Circular Economy, China National Resources Recycling Association, China Resource Recycling Association, Hunan Development and Reform Commission, and Hunan Department of Ecology and Environment.
