[Dance] Jielong Dance

Jielong Dance enjoys wide popularity in Huayuan County, western Hunan. It originates from the sacrificial custom passed down from generation to generation of Miao ethnic group, who regards Dragons as symbol of happiness and prosperity. Dressed in festival costumes, Miao people stand in rows to welcome dragons, with brilliant colored flags in hands. Led by the Longsi (a person officiating at the dragon-welcoming ceremony), they cheerfully perform the Jielong Dance while accompanied by wind instruments and a percussion band.

Jielong Dance, integrating traditional dance, customs and costume, shows graceful postures and clear vocalization, and displays the national costumes and silver ornaments of Miao women.
