Xiangjiang Declaration(Full text)

2009-4-29

Though different countries we come from, we are all concerned about the earth--our shared home. Gathering at the bank of River, we hereby adopt Xiangjiang Declaration on environmental protection as follows.

The mankind is facing crisis, industrial civilization has created enormous wealth, but has also led to serious consequences: over-consumption of water and air, exacerbating instability of global economy, widening gap between the rich and poor and frequent outbreak of environmental and health emergencies. Therefore, the mankind must pursue a road at harmony with the nature. We support the policy of scientific development in building a resource-saving and environment-friendly society and highly compliment the initiative in actively building such a society in Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan city group in Hunan Province, China.

We advocate elimination of economic, political, cultural and technological barriers, strengthening of multilateral cooperation and establishment of an extensive and effective environmental protection system regardless of nationalities, races and classes.

We appeal to statesmen at all countries to shoulder responsibilities in pursuing scientific policies and a strict legal system strengthening administration and education, and increasing public input to environmental protection.

We urge entrepreneurs to take corporate social responsibilities consciously, tighten quality control and implement measures to ensure a sound growth of enterprises without compromising the interests of the public.

We advocate a green, healthy and civilized life-style. Everyone should start from doing small things, take good care of the nature for the benefit of the present as well as future generations. We wish mountains green and waters blue forever.

By all the participants of the International Cooperation Forum on Resources and Environment, 2009.
