It was learnt recently from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of the P.R.C. that Aoshang Village of Aoshang Town and Changchong Village of Wangxian Town, Suxian District were included in the fourth batch of the Chinese Traditional Village List. Situated amidst beautiful landscapes, the former was built since the reign of Emperor Kangxi and the latter Emperor Yongzheng during the Qing Dynasty (1644–1912).

Protection works on ancient villages have been intensified in Suxian District in recent years, such as compiling protection and development plans for the traditional villages after general investigations. The ancient buildings, residences, and roads have been renovated in accordance with the principle of "renovate while keep the ancient style" within the district, to retain the original style and natural landscape of its villages to the maximum. Protection and inheritance of dragon and lion dances, festivals, and other unique folk customs and culture have also been maintained.

Beyond that, Suxian District has increased capital investment on scientific planning and having traditional villages well integrated with new rural village construction, to form new rural vernacular dwelling characterized with both natural scenery and cultural civilization. It also created an integration of traditional, historical, cultural, unique, and tourism villages, to develop rural tourism and achieve sustainable development.
