On September 6, the Ministry of Environmental Protection released the bulletin on the total load of main pollutants discharged by all provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in the first half of 2015. Hunan Province sees various degrees of reduction in the total emission of four major pollutants.

The bulletin stated that in the first half in Hunan, the provincial discharge of chemical oxygen demand, ammonia nitrogen, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide amounted to 629,700 tons, 76,800 tons, 335,700 tons and 252,500 tons, down 1.2%, 4.4%, 0.58% and 8.86% year-on-year, respectively.

This attributed to continuous efforts in provincial environmental treatment. This year in Hunan, 39 thermal power units directly governed by the province and 65 NSP cement production lines have completed the upgrading and transformation of pollution treatment facilities and have all been put into operation; 912 polluting enterprises have been ordered to suspend production for rectification and 349 severely-polluting enterprises have been shut down and banned. Much headway has been made in blocking the pollution source and improving pollution treatment in five key areas including Zhubugang of Xiangtan, Thirty-sixth Bay of Chenzhou, Qingshuitang of Zhuzhou, Shuikoushan of Hengyang and Xikuangshan of Loudi. Therefore the water quality of Xiangjiang River gets stable and better.
