Wen Huazhi was born in Shaoshan of Hunan province in 1982. She began to be a tour guide in Xiangtan New World travel agency in 2003. Now she is a student of the Institute of Tourism Management at Xiangtan Univerity.

Wen Huazhi saved the lives of her passengers without considering her own safety when her tour bus w as involved in a car crash. Huazhi's actions lost her a leg.

Although it is the duty of a tour guide to give priority to their passengers when a crisis occurs, seldom of them will abide by this clause.

The accident happened in 2005. The bus was horribly damaged on the side of road after crashing into a coal truck. Badly injured people were trapped in the wreckage unable to help themselves; some unfortunately, had died already.

One of the survivors recalls the terrifying scene.

"I felt I was dying. With no way to escape. Life is so fragile; I really tasted the feeling of death. It was too horrible to look at all the broken arms and legs. The bus was full of blood."

However, amongst all the dying and chaos, one voice, although faint, injected hope in the living, not for herself, but for others.

"I heard a girl keep calling out,'Come on, we must hold on'. Everyone will get out alive. Help is on its way."

The voice came from Wen Huazhi,who was sitting in the front of the bus.She felt that her leg was under terrible pressure. When she regained consciousness after the initial shock of the crash, she found herself trapped in her seat, with her leg broken and the bone exposed through the skin.

Despite her own precarious situation and at the risk of dying, Wen mightily struggled to call out repeatedly and warn her passengers not to fall asleep, fearing they might not wake up again.

Wang Liu'an, director of the rescue team, decided firstly to save Wen because she was sitting nearest to the front door and was seriously wounded.

"I felt that her leg was broken in three, and her body was covered in blood." However, beyond the director's comprehension, Huazhi refused to be rescued when aid was first offered to her.She said 'I'm the guide. Those in the back are my passengers. Please save them first!"
