Du Jiahao, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee secretary and Hunan Provincial People's Congress Standing Committee director, led a delegation to the Georgia State of the United States of America; the Mexico State of the United Mexican States; and, the Dominican Republic, between September 10 and 19, 2018. The trips were made at the invitations of their Ministries of Foreign Affairs.
During the tour, Secretary Du had a series of fruitful meetings with the local governments and business leaders. A number of friendly agreements or cooperation memorandums of understanding have been signed. A broad consensus has been reached on such issues as strengthening friendly exchanges, deepening pragmatic cooperation, accelerating related projects construction, and participating in implementing the “Belt and Road” initiative. Fruitful results have been achieved.
During his stay in the US, Du met with the Illinois Deputy Governor Leslie Munger and exchanged a letter of intent on the Sister-City establishment with him. He met with Georgia Governor Nathan Deal and signed a provincial partnership agreement with his counterpart. Secretary Du expected that through this visit, more high-level exchanges of visits and non-governmental exchanges between Hunan government and the US state governments would be further strengthened. Both sides may continuously deepen pragmatic cooperation in such fields as modern agriculture, engineering machinery, aerospace, food processing, and cultural tourism, to open a new chapter in friendly exchanges with win-win development, he added.
In Mexico, Du met with Alfredo del Mazo Maza, governor of Mexico State. They signed a letter of intent for the friendship establishment between the two places. He said, “We welcome strategic investors including those coming from the Mexico State to invest in Hunan, and will also encourage more powerful Hunan enterprises to start business in Mexico.”
On May 1 this year, China and Dominican Republic has established formal diplomatic relations, which marked a new chapter in the relationship between the two countries. Secretary Du met with Dominican Republic Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas Maldonado, Minister Administrative of the Presidency José Ramón Peralta, and Tourism Minister Francisco J. García in Santo Domingo.
