On the afternoon of May 14, 2018, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Hunan Governor Xu Dazhe met in Changsha with a Cambodian delegation led by VengSakhon, minister of the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Cambodia. They came to discuss cooperation on a rice project. Vice Governor Sui Zhongcheng and Secretary General Wang Qun also attended.

Governor Xu extended a warm welcome to his Cambodian guests. He said, “China and Cambodia are in close geographical proximity, have cultural similarities, and enjoy a long-standing friendship. Hunan, the home town of Chairman Mao Zedong—founder of the New China, boasts profound cultural connotations, rich tourism resources, strong scientific and technological development, and a good industrial base. Scientific and technological achievements made in such fields as engineering machinery, rail traffic, high speed rail power, and control systems are world class.”

Under the leadership of academician Yuan Longping, the “father of hybrid rice,” Hunan's super hybrid rice research has maintained a leading position in the world. Under the Belt and Road Initiative, Hunan and Cambodia have great opportunities for exchange and cooperation. There are broad prospects for both. We’d love to share the experience we have gained during the past 40 years of reform and opening-up and we hope that this rice project cooperation will serve as a new starting point to push forward the future development of bilateral cooperation in agriculture; economics and trade, culture, education, and tourism.

Minister VengSakhon said that China is Cambodia’s largest source of investment. Hunan has advanced agricultural science and technology. This visit to Hunan is of great significance in the promotion of Cambodia’s reform and development of agriculture. It is hoped that both sides will continue to improve cooperation, establish closer exchanges for all walks of life, facilitate personnel exchange, and strengthen cooperation in the fields of agricultural development; economics and trade investment; tourism exchange; infrastructure construction and other fields.
