On December 22, Hunan Governor Xu Dazhe met in Changsha with Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith who was here to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Consulate-general of Laos in Changsha.

Governor Xu Dazhe welcomed Saleumxay and his delegation. He said that Hunan and Laos have similar location conditions and cultural customs. Xu continued, “The two sides have maintained close exchanges and cooperation in recent years and have vast potential for cooperation in agriculture, economy and trade, science and technology, culture, and tourism.”

He added, “At present, Hunan is implementing the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, actively responding to the ‘Belt and Road’ Initiative, giving full play to its location advantages, vigorously implementing the innovation-driven opening up strategy, and sticking to the principle of high-quality ‘bring in’ strategy and multi-dimensional ‘go global’ strategy.”

Xu hoped to take the opportunity of setting up the Consulate-general of Laos in Changsha to further promote cooperation in such areas as sister-city establishment, economic and trade exchanges, industrial development, and cultural exchanges, so as to contribute more to deepening the friendship between China and Laos.

Minister Saleumxay thanked Hunan for its efforts in helping Laos alleviate poverty and promote economic and social development.
