Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture 60th Anniversary Achievements Exhibition Kicks off

Sept. 20, 2017 marks the 60th Anniversary of the Founding of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture of Hunan Province. The prefecture initiated an achievements exhibition at the Cultural Palace of Nationalities in Beijing on Sept. 6. It will also hold a celebration conference on the founding day.

Achievements of Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture are in the following aspects:

Since the “12th Five-Year Plan”, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture has completed more than 180 billion yuan investment, an annual average growth rate of 20.4%. Its infrastructure construction has witnessed the largest investment and fastest development ever. There are seven expressways totaling 478 km mileage in the prefecture. Tongren Fenghuang Airport was completed and put into use, and Xiangxi Airport started construction. The Qianjiang-Zhangjiajie-Changde fast-speed railway and the Zhangjiajie-Jishou-Huaihua high-speed railway are under construction.

The eco-cultural tourism in recent years has maintained "blowout" development. The prefecture received 38.2 million tourists in 2016, compared with 7.94 million in 2007. The tourism revenue rose from 3.1 billion yuan to 26.5 billion yuan. Xiangxi has become the tourist high growth area and top ten tourist hotspots nationwide.

Great changes have taken place in urban and rural areas. The urbanization rate is 43.06%, with the urban population increased to 1.135 million. Meanwhile, the prefecture has 1,168 “beautiful villages”. Its forest coverage is 70.24%, making green ecology its first image.

Xiangxi Prefecture, where President Xi Jinping initiated the strategy of targeted poverty alleviation, has invested 57.9 billion yuan in poverty alleviation in past five years. Its poverty stricken population has reduced by 500,000, and the impoverishment rate has dropped to 16.14%.
