On January 1, 2018, the Hunan Tourism Development Committee announced that Hunan tourism is off to a good start for the year beginning with growth during the New Year holiday (30 December -1 January).

There were more than 10.6 million tourists in the province during the three-day holiday. They generated more than 7.3 billion CNY in revenue. The two figures represented increase of 21.82% and 25.52% year on year respectively.

There were 2.6 million overnight, and more than 8 million day trippers.

Eleven cities had over half million visitors: Changsha, Zhuzhou, Hengyang, Shaoyang, Yueyang, Changde, Yiyang, Chenzhou, Yongzhou, and Huaihua. Tourism revenue of each city exceeded 200 million CNY. Changsha had 1.6 billion CNY and Loudi 248 million CNY.

Hunan’s cities and prefecture have developed tourism highlights, expanded tourism products, revitalized holiday tourism markets, and launched a series of distinctive tourism-themed activities.
