The fast development of rural tourism in recent years contributes to the rise of bed and breakfast (B&B) inns. Meanwhile, China’s No.1 Central Document 2017 proposed to vigorously develop B&B inns and nursing homes with rural characteristics.
The number of B&B inns in China exceeded 40 thousand, and Hunan ranked tenth in this regard, according to the survey data released by the China Tourism Association.
According to incomplete statistics, over 200 B&B inns of different types have been added both in downtown and countryside of Wulingyuan District, Zhangjiajie in recent two years. These newly built inns together could receive over 10 thousand tourists from home and abroad.
Besides Zhangjiajie, B&B inns are commonly seen in Changde, Shaoyang, and suburbs of Changsha.
Sheng Ke, founder of a Hunan-based company, said, “The rise of B&B inns is a representative of side-supply structural reform in tourism industry. However, the operation mode of B&B inn should focus on upgrading the quality of service and increasing the soft value of products, instead of limiting to traditional forms of entertainment in rural inns such as fishing and playing cards.”
