On September 9, Xiangtan University (XTU) held the “New Era Higher Education Development” University Presidents Forum. Nearly 20 university presidents from five countries including Spain, South Korea, and Uganda gathered to discuss the development of higher education in the new era.
This year marks XTU’s 60th year. Huang Yunqing, CPC XTU Committee secretary, remarked that the forum aimed to build an academic platform for exchanges and discussions between Chinese and foreign university presidents; enhance mutual understanding, interaction, and learning from each other among different cultures and disciplines; promote international communication and cooperation; and, accelerate the global higher education development.
Barnabas Nawangwe said, “Universities in developing countries are often at a disadvantage  in international exchanges. Higher education institutions should embrace internationalization with a positive and rational attitude.” He suggested, “Before joining in internationalization, universities in developing countries must establish relevant laws, ideas, and business structures, and carry out equal cooperation with the aid of advantageous higher education.”
