Xu Dazhe, Hunan governor, met with Edward Boateng, Ghana's ambassador to China, and other representatives in Changsha on September 10, 2019. The guests came to Hunan to attend the China-Africa Forum on Renminbi (RMB) Internationalization.
Governor Xu thanked the China-Africa banking community for their long-term support and assistance to Hunan's economic and social development. He said, “Hunan is seizing the strategic opportunity for the rise of central China, and is creating an innovation and opening-up hub and regional financial center in central China.” He continued, “In the process of following “Belt and Road” initiative and expanding high-level opening up, Hunan has attached great importance to cooperate with Africa. In this June, the First China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo was successfully held in Hunan. It has injected new impetus into the building of a stronger China-Africa community with shared future. Two months after the Expo, the follow-up results continued to emerge, and the China-Africa Forum on RMB Internationalization, which will open the following day, is one of the important achievements.”
He expected this forum would be an opportunity to accelerate the China-Africa cross-border RMB center construction, promote the RMB internationalization, and provide solid financial support for the development of China-Africa cooperation. Ghana is an important partner of Hunan. The province will continue to give full play to its strength in the fields of construction machinery, infrastructure, and agricultural science and technology, and deepen collaboration with African countries like Ghana, to create more benefits for peoples of both sides.
Ambassador Boateng believed the establishment of the China-Africa Cross-border RMB Center would greatly enhance the convenience of China-Africa international trade. It was of great significance for building a closer economic, trade and financial partnership between China and Africa. He hoped all parties in China and Africa would do their best for the early establishment of it, which would offer financial services that meet the market demands for the participating parties. Under the background of China-Africa cooperation, Ghana has attached great importance to communicating and cooperating with Hunan. It is hoped that both sides would further enlarge their complementary advantages and achieve more substantive cooperation results in a wider field, he added.
Vice Governor He Baoxiang attended the meeting.
