3 Hunan Projects Win Chinese Highest Civil Engineering Prize

The 16th Chinese Zhan Tianyou Civil Engineering Prize was announced in Beijing on April 12, 2019. Thirty projects stood out from 139 nominators around China and won the prize. Hunan has three awarded projects, namely, Yingpan Road Xiangjiang River Tunnel (Changsha), Maglev Express Line (Changsha), and Hukun (Shanghai-Kunming) High-speed Railway North-westward Grand Bridge in Changsha. 
There are four major highlights of the awarded projects: 
Innovative construction technology and planning, and design philosophy and theory; 
“By-products” of the construction process which can be adopted in future projects; 
Solutions to the challenges under extreme weather conditions, to guarantee smooth construction and safe operation; and, Emphasis on environmental protection, energy conservation, and emission reduction, in planning, design, construction, and operation.
The Chinese Zhan Tianyou Civil Engineering Prize, established in 1999, is the highest prize for outstanding technological innovation in civil engineering field. It has been held for 16 sessions, and turned to be held annually since the third session. Not more than 30 projects were commended every year. As of now, there are 463 projects awarded.
