On February 6, Hunan girl Yi Shan (a pseudonym) had her hematopoietic stem cell collected at hematopoietic stem cell collection room of the Department of Hematopatholog at the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University. Her hematopoietic stem cells will be transplanted to a patient with aplastic anemia who lives in Maryland, the United States.

After the collection, the China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP) Hunan Branch and the Second Xiangya Hospital handed over blood samples of hematopoietic stem cells to American volunteers.

The two sides signed and handed over relevant documents, and packed blood samples. Yi Shan hoped the foreign staff would send her greetings and wishes to the patient.

CMDP Hunan Branch Director Zhang Zan said, “There are more than 130,000 Hunan potential donors registered with the China Marrow Donor Program (CMDP). Up to now, Hunan has performed transplants of hemopoietic stem cells (HSCs) -- blood cells that give rise to all other blood cells -- for more than 480 patients. Hunan ranked fourth nationwide in potential donors and marrow donors.”
