Hunan Tourism Booming during China’s National Day Holiday

Hunan Province witnessed a safe, smooth, and orderly tourism peak during the 2017 National Day holiday, achieving a steady yet high growth at tourism market. More than 61.4 million tourists traveled around Hunan during the holiday, generating 34.8 billion yuan of revenue. According to comparable caliber, the two figures represented increase of 22.71 percent and 29.46 percent year on year respectively.

Prefecture-level cities with major scenic spots have seen rising numbers of tourists, with Changsha, Xiangtan, Yueyang, and Chenzhou having hosted more than five million tourists. From Oct. 1 to 8, the top five of 95 provincially-monitored tourist attractions leading in tourist growth were Yuelu Mountain, Hengshan Mountain, Junshan Island, Shaoshan, and Langshan Mountain.

Cities with tourism revenue increased by over 30% were Xiangtan, Hengyang, Shaoyang, Yueyang, Chenzhou, and Yongzhou. The top five of 95 provincially-monitored tourist attractions leading in entrance ticket income were: Window of the World and Underwater World, Shaoshan, Wulingyuan, Tianmen Mountain, and Fantawild Adventure during the eight-day holiday.

The short-distance trip made by car has become a major holiday travel mode this year. The eco-tourism economic belt along the Zhangjiajie-Jishou-Huaihua Expressway, the Dongting Lake Ecological and Economic Area, and the grand eastern Hunan tourism and economic belt along the Pingjiang-Rucheng Expressway have attracted numerous self-drive tourists.

Hunan tourism market has maintained stable growth with no major tourist accidents occurred during the National Day holiday, realizing the target of safety, order, high quality, great benefits, and civilization.
