Hunan Provincial Leaders Meet with Canadian Parliamentarian

Chairwoman of the CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee Li Weiwei and Deputy Director of the Hunan Provincial People’s Congress Wang Kemin met respectively with a delegation headed by Tan Geng, member of Parliament of Canada and co-chair of Canada-China Legislative Association.

Chairwoman Li said that Hunan will organize the activity of “Hunan Products Exported to North American Countries” in the second half of this year. It will be an important channel to promote Hunan products to Canada, and in return introduce Canada’s science and technology; culture; art; business and commerce; and, tourism to Hunan.

The CPPCC Hunan Provincial Committee plans to arrange an “Overseas Advisory Group for Hunan’s Development”. A number of overseas Hunan elites will be invited to be the member of the advisory group. Li hoped that Tan Geng, who served as former president of the Hunan Fellow Association of Canada, could give full play to the role of the Association as the bridge to encourage more Hunanese to join the group, and increase Hunan’s popularity internationally.

"Xiang (Hunan) embroidery, tea, and cuisine are very unique. They are very popular in Canada." said Tan Geng, adding that Hunan, his hometown, has developed rapidly in recent years. He hoped to promote outstanding Hunan enterprises and products to Canada. More exchanges and cooperation will be made between Hunan and Canada.

Wang Kemin briefed the guests on Hunan’s basic situation in science and technology, education and the work of local people's congress. He said Hunan is implementing the strategies of innovation-oriented development and the rise of Hunan via opening up. It is looking forward to strengthening exchanges and cooperation with Canada in the areas of medical equipment, education and training, and environmental protection.
