The Changsha Custom launched a new mode of parcel tax payment at the Changsha Huanghua International Airport on July 5, 2017.

When a passenger put his/her phone close to the POS terminal scanner, and confirm paying, the payment can be completed within three seconds. Both Wechat and Alipay are available.

A tourist back from South Korea was the first one to experience the e-payment mode.

According to Chinese law, all inbound passengers, for tourism or on business, should pay parcel tax for their imported goods worth more than 5,000 yuan. The parcel tax is a part of tariff, varying at 15%, 30%, and 60% based on the taxed commodity.

As outbound trips and overseas shopping have increased in recent years, the parcel tax payment sees a surge. The conventional modes of payment, including cash or China Union Pay card, might be failed because of insufficient balance, or bank network fault, or foreign VISA cards.

The innovative payment mode, supported by Wechat, Alipay, and Union Pay Card, provides quick and convenient service for the passengers. Cash is now unavailable.
