This year marks the fifth anniversary of the launch of “The Belt and Road” Initiative. Hunan’s imports from and exports to “Belt and Road” countries have been continuously growing. Statistics from the Changsha Customs show that, from January to August in 2018, the total trade volume between Hunan Province and the countries along the route of the “Belt and Road” Initiative amounted to 47.54 billion CNY, an increase of 48.3% over the same period of the previous year, around 20% higher than the overall growth rate of Hunan’s foreign trade during the same period.

Presently, Hunan’s imports and exports with eleven countries in Southeast Asia rank first among the countries along the route. The value of imports and exports in the first 8 months of this year accounted for 45% of the trade value between Hunan Province and these countries. Hunan’s export products to them are mainly electromechanical products. Exports of commodities in such fields of biomedicine, new materials, and labor-intensive industries maintain their edges. Exports of products like cultural products, clothing, agricultural products, and fireworks and firecrackers have achieved outstanding results. Hunan’s imports mainly include coal and electronic products.
