2017 Hunan-Africa Industrial Cooperation Conference to Be Held in Changsha

The 2017 Hunan-Africa Industrial Cooperation Conference (the Conference) will be held in Changsha between September 21 and 22. Foreign diplomatic envoys to China, ministers, and local government officials from 20 African countries will attend.

The Conference is hosted by the Hunan Provincial People’s Government and the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and organized by the Hunan Provincial Commerce Department and the Changsha Municipal People’s Government. The theme is "China-Africa Local Government Cooperation", focusing on agricultural development and connectivity.

The Conference focuses on Hunan competitive industries development plans and priorities, and African trends in industrialization and modernization. It stresses the complementarity and effectiveness of Hunan-Africa cooperation in economy, trade, and industry.

Activities such as a main conference, forums, cross-border cooperation matchmaking and inspection, and Hunan-Africa commodity festival will be held.

The commodity festival is China’s premier one for promoting African goods. Now 15 African countries have confirmed their participation and will display agricultural products, culture and art, clothing, coffee, and handicrafts. One hundred Hunan firms from thirteen cities (prefecture) will participate.

Hunan has held such conference for three consecutive years. Hunan-Africa economic and trade cooperation has grown closer in recent years. Hunan Provincial Commerce Department Deputy Director Li Xinqiu said, "Hunan and Africa become better matched with each other in industrial development. Africa is an important export destination for Hunan competitive industries, outstanding firms, and quality products. " Li added, "Hunan’s products, services, techniques, and projects have benefited many African countries. Hunan has cooperated with Africa in such fields as engineering machinery; rail transit; modern agriculture; new energy; exploitation of mineral resources; construction of roads, bridges, and housing; and, water conservancy and hydropower."
