It is very common in English writing, especially newspaper writing to use the same word or phrase again and again or to use unnecessary words hoping to achieve better explanation of what is being mentioned. Sometime it is helpful and also unavoidable but not all the time.
If you are using a word in one sentence, try to look for an alternate for the same word in the next. This mistake is common when abbreviations exist e.g you can use "Bank of China" (the full version) when mentioning it the first time.
After that you can start using its abbreviation i.e. BOC
Then comes the unnecessary usage of extra explanatory words e.g "and plus": only "plus" is fine here.
