Welcome to Hunan

 The 800-li Dongting Lake is like a pearl embedded in the central China. On its south, there is such a treasure land with abundant talents and rich local production. It is Hunan, meaning a place south to Dongting Lake. Hunan is short for its longest river, River Xiang and is also called “the Kingdom of Hibiscus” due to the widely planted hibiscus. It is in the north to the Yangtze River, and in the south to Guangdong Province, Hong Kong and Macao, and bordered with Hubei, Guangxi, Guizhou, Jiangxi and Chongqing. With its population of 69.25 million people, covering the area of 211.8 thousand square kilometers, governing 13 cities and one autonomous prefecture and 122 counties( cities and regions) in total, the capital, Changsha, is a famous cultural city in history.

 

 “I came from southern Dao prefecture, originated from Lianxi stream; the river goes toward the east, with water from Xiang River.” The Hunan province stands an important position in the 5500 years of Chinese civilization. Especially in resent hundreds of years, Hunan people, holding the spirits of “dare to be the first” make Hunan the origin of new philosophy and emerging place of the democratic revolution in China, Hunan province has spurred the advance of Chinese history, and influenced the rest of the world as well.

 

 As the birthplace of Mao Zedong, founder of the People’s Republic of China(PRC), Hunan province has contributed to the founding and growth of the country. Over the first decade of the 21st century, the province’s gross domestic production(GDP) has annually increased over 10%. Despite the global financial crisis throughout 2009, Hunan achieved leapfrog growth with its in-depth implementation of development strategies: pushing forward innovative industrialization , as well as stepping up efforts to improve basic industries, infrastructure, and fundamentals. In the same year, the province’s GDP hit nearly 1.3 trillion yuan, and its economy grew 13.6%,4.9 percentage higher than the national average. This ranked the province among the nation’s top six performers in terms of growth rate, and placed it among China’s top ten for the consecutive year in terms of its economy. Hunan is emerging as one of China’s central provinces maintaining stable and fast growth.

 

 Hunan is well developed in agriculture, in light to solid industrial foundation, abundant natural resources, pioneering educational techniques, flourishing cultural industry and cost efficiency of business operation; it obtains apparently advantageous position and traffic conditions. Nowadays, people of all ethnic groups in Hunan are comprehensively implementing the scientific development and accelerating the new industrialization with the strategy of building a well-off society for people in Hunan as well as enhancing the infrastructure, fundamental industry and work so as to promote the regional economic cooperation and exchange. Today’s Hunan province has established a direct trade relationship with more than 170 nations and regions; 49 of Top 500 Fortune Companies have invested in Hunan province. Hunan is getting more and more vigor and vitality. A trial implementation of comprehensive reforms to build a resource-conserving and environment-friendly society has also been accelerated in the cluster region of Changsha, Zhuzhou and Xiangtan cities. Thus, a new nucleus of growth is about to form around these urban areas. Hunan is turning more and more into a vigorous and appealing hub of dynamism.
